After a bit of walking Kitty opens the hatch to a rather unused storage area, it's lack of use evident by the thin coating of dust that covers some of the crates and shelves, perhaps having gone forgotten by all but those who seek privacy for romantic interludes. "Will this work," she asks, her voice still very much tinged with concern.

"Yeah, yeah this is fine." Martin says quietly as he steps through. Scratching the back of his head, he moves further into the storage room before he turns to face her. "I wanted to talk to you about the Pandorian thing. I don't know if you knew, but we were supposed to fight today. I went down there and told him I wasn't going to fight him and I walked away. He's furious with me right now."

Kitty shakes her head. "I didn't know, no. I've been keeping out of it, no offense. I didn't want to get involved." Her eyes drift down and to the right, unable to look at him now. "If you'd like, I can talk to my brother, Marty, although I can't promise that'll end with any kind of favorable results." In fact, she is anticipating that any such conversation just might end in something very bad happening.

Raising his hands to his head to ruffle his hair softly, Martin drums his fingertips against his scalp as he looks to her. "No, it's okay, this is going to have to play out as it is." He says with a sigh. "Katherine, I told him I couldn't fight him, even if all he wanted to do is see how badly I want to see you. My CAG will have my ass and I simply can't risk that. I'm proud to keep this ship safe and if I get busted to nugget I'd feel horrible. I had to do this." He says with a pause, watching her closely. "I don't know how things got so twisted up, but I'm not mad. I want to make that clear."

Kitty has no idea herself and it shows in the blank way she looks at Dash. "I understand but he won't take it that way," she explains. "But…frakkall, this is my fault. I shouldn't have assumed that my brother would have wanted to have you come to him…" Turning around, she looks away, unable to look at Marty now.

"Kitty, you had no way of knowing, don't blame yourself." Martin says sympathetically, sliding his hands into the pack pockets of his offduty fatigues. "This is really a small thing, he's angry because I asked his permission to date you. I don't want to put you in a position to choose sides, but I just wanted to let you know that I really did do my best to try to feel him out."

Kitty sighs. "I know you did, Marty. And I'm sorry I…" Still feeing the urge to blame herself, she falls into a bout of self-pity-slash-self-loathing that she internalizes, keeping all that to herself. "So no matter what happens, we'll still be friends, right?"

Martin looks around, making sure that nothing flammable is being stored before he lights a cigarette. Sliding his lighter away, he steps towards her and places a soft hand on her shoulder. "Kitty, I wanted to tell you something." He pauses, giving his words a chance to settle in. "If you want me, you want me. If Panda wants to respect me then he'll respect me. I just…" He pauses to choose the right words. "…I just realized earlier today that I was about to get into a fight with a man in hopes that a girl that I like would brighten up to me, maybe accept me a little bit more. I like you alot, but even if this would have fixed things with Pandorian, I couldn't go through with it. It doesn't mean that I don't like you, but it does mean that I've been feeling lately like I've been pursuing you so much."

There's a slight tension in her shoulder when Martin touches her but there's no other reaction to it or his words, Kitty statue-like. "Did you mean it when you told me you'd never come between me and my brother?"

"I don't want to." Martin says quietly. "He means so much to you, Kitty. Gods, you know how much I like you, but you'd never forgive me if it was my fault that you two didn't talk."

Kitty nods and turns, giving Marty a hug. "I'll talk with Panda. See what I can do." The hug is released and she sits, looking a bit defeated. "This is frakking…if I didn't think he had my best interest at heart I'd beat the shit out of him myself." It's not very often that Kitty says something like that and means it but there she is, meaning it.

Squeezing her softly with the hug, Martin lets her slip away. Sitting across from her, he quietly takes a drag off of his cigarette as he watches her. "Katherine? I'm not trying to hedge things in either direction when I say this? But you're a grown woman. You having free choice shouldn't do this to him."

"Yes, I know. But still. He's family…" Duh. Like that point needed to be made. Grumbling, she looks over at Martin and shakes her head, her expressio grave. "I will follow my heart. Whever that might lead me, Martin. I just hope that everyone will be able to forgive me no matter what decision I might might."

Martin's face quiets, watching her expression as he lets his cigarette burn openly. "There's nothing to forgive. I'm not mad at you. You've got to do what you've got to do. I get that." Martin says, being friendly with her about it all. "There's no love lost here between you and I, not one bit. But you've got to do what you've got to do I guess." He says, sighing. His cigarette is remembered as he lowers his gaze away from her and takes a drag.

Kitty nods. "Thank you. For everything." Smiling, she simplely stands there and watches him, taking in how he smokes, how he moves, the sound of his voice while trying to figure out what the frak she can do about this entire mess.

Martin raises his head again to find her eyes, seemingly weighting the situation as an uncomfortable silence settles in. "Yeah, yeah anytime." Martin says, quietly rising from the crate that he was sitting on. Looking to the floor, he reaches out to rest a hand on her shoulder. "You know where you can find me." He says, careful to not make it any more uncomfortable than it alrady is before he heads towards the hatch and leaves.
